SEMEX Brazil – Improve Productivity and Security with Nuvme

Operating in the Brazilian market since 1995 as the exclusive distributor of the Canadian Semex Alliance, Semex do Brasil Comércio Importação e Exportação Ltda started its activities in the city of Jundiaí/SP and transferred its administrative headquarters to the city of Blumenau/SC in 2008.

Specializing in the commercialization of bovine genetics, the company values excellence and innovation and in strengthening market solutions, offering semen from bulls that contribute to the genetic improvement of the herd, always respecting the philosophy of selection with a focus on fertility and longevity of global herds.

Its material is recognized by experts as one of the best and most reliable genetics of specialized dairy and beef breeds in the world.

With more than 90 representatives distributed from north to south of Brazil, Semex has qualified professionals who offer differentiated technical consultancy in handling, nutrition, and genetics.

Nine-time winner of the Agroleite Trophy for best company in the Genetics category in Brazil, Semex qualifies its team with periodic training, including recycling processes in Canada, so that customers have assertive alternatives, resulting in more profitable and sustainable businesses.

The Problem

With 45 employees and more than 90 representatives scattered throughout the country, Semex faced a scenario of productivity loss, lack of server redundancy, resource waste, and fragmented processes.

It was then that they found in Nuvme and AWS services an integrated and secure solution that brought agility to the company’s processes, security, and reliability to the services provided by the IT infrastructure.

The Challenge

With a series of internal demands, Semex needed to unify processes to gain productivity in its business management.

There was a waste of resources, unavailability of services due to obsolete servers, lack of redundancy, and the backup process was susceptible to failures, making it impossible to continue the company’s business and occupying professionals with rework and concerns that invaded their daily tasks, causing them to lose productivity.

The Solution

With Nuvme, Semex completed the migration to the cloud of its Senior S.A. ERP solutions with Microsoft SQL Server database, website and email hosting, and complete backup of the environment to the cloud.

During the project, the Microsoft SQL Server database was converted to Oracle.

Senior S.A.’s Sapiens ERP, previously installed on-premises, was completely migrated to the cloud.

The architecture implemented at Semex is based on the Terminal Services solution with load balancing, active directory integrated into the on-premises (local) environment.

To facilitate communication, integration, and information exchange, a VPN using AWS’s VPC was established between the headquarters and AWS.

Through this VPN, Microsoft’s Active Directory information is transmitted, allowing local users to use their authentication information in the cloud.

This also facilitated remote printing, as the reports generated on the servers in the cloud need to be printed locally.

The backup of local files was sent to AWS through the Snow Ball service, as the available link at the time would not allow the sending of a high volume of data to the cloud. In addition, the RDS Oracle service enabled better management, cost reduction, and improved performance of the database used by Senior S.A.’s ERP.

“During the first two days after the migration, we had some internal setbacks, but all were resolved in a timely manner and the company did not stop working due to unforeseen circumstances.” – Anderson Schmitt, IT analyst at Semex.

With plans to expand its processing and storage capacity, Semex’s next step is to add all partner company domains to the website hosting solution.

“We know we can count on the AWS solution and Nuvme’s support to ensure that our growth is always upward.” – Anderson Schmitt, IT analyst at Semex.

According to Anderson Schmitt, IT analyst at Semex, after the migration, Semex gained agility in the process, security, and reliability in the services provided by the IT infrastructure.

“Nuvme has knowledge of the different service solutions it provides. From ERP, Database, Windows platform, and, of course, AWS platform. AWS and Nuvme can deliver a reliable, scalable, and highly available system for our business.”
